The All-in Semi-Bluff
In today’s hyper-aggressive poker world, many Pinnacle Sports Poker players employ extremely aggressive plays to control games and build their stacks. One such poker strategy is the all-in semi-bluff. This is where you have a good drawing hand and decide to commit all of your chips to the pot, in an attempt to either steal it or hit your underdog draw. This poker play is not really recommended in most situations, but when a poker table gets short or you’re playing against a bunch of rocks, it can be effective.

The idea is not to use this move too much. You’ll eventually run into someone who’s slow-playing a big hand and will call your bet. Then you’re at the mercy of hitting outs. So, one should be a little selective about where to throw in the all-in semi-bluff. Too many players use it as a way to try and get out of a bad hand, instead of when they’re likely up against a hand that an opponent would put down when faced with an all-in raise.
You should always have a bigger stack than the opponent against whom you’re trying this play. It puts them at risk of busting out, and if you do get action you’ll still have chips left to fight another day. You should also wait for situations when the flop has low cards in it. If your opponent was forcing the action with big cards, your all-in semi-bluff will be more effective when three rag cards come off. For example, let’s say you have 10-9 and the flop is 8-8-7. This is a good time to try a bold move, because your opponent also has to fear the possibility that you have an 8.
Just don’t look to make this move with hands like J-10 when flops like K-A-6 come off. The king and the ace are far more likely to have been paired, and your draw is only a gut draw, limiting you to four outs. You’re far more likely to get a call, and you’ll be a huge dog for the next two streets.
