Isolating An Opponent
It’s basic poker strategy that the more players that are in a hand, the lower your odds are going to be to win. That’s why it’s important to try and keep the number of opponents as low as possible.Whether you’re playing at Pinnacle Sports Poker or in a live game, the best way to do that is to force the action and try to make it look like you have a big hand. The idea is to isolate an opponent so you have a better chance against that player head-to-head. There are a few different circumstances where you should try to employ this poker tactic to your advantage. Here are a couple of those situations.

When you’re at a table with a maniac-style player it will be profitable to try and isolate them when you have a good hand. This player makes too many raises pre-flop, and can easily be taken advantage of by re-raising the pot and getting yourself head-to-head against them. It’s not an exact science, but you’ll win more hands than you’ll lose if you wait for good starting cards. The same rule applies for players that you think are on tilt or just can’t play very well. If you put in the effort to isolate them from the other players at the table, you’ll get more of their chips than anyone else.
Another common situation you’ll come across at Pinnacle Sports Poker is when the small stack has gone all-in and you want to give that player some action. If there are still players to act after you, it’s often a good idea to put in a raise to drive out the other opponents. If you just call, the pot odds will be inviting other players to try their luck with the flop, or any other streets that may be yet to come. Sometimes an opponent may have already called the smaller all-in bet, and a raise will often pick up those chips as well, because that player will usually put you on a good hand and fold theirs.
So the next time you’re at a table with a sucker, do your best to isolate them. Instead of watching the action, you’ll be getting your chips in when you have an advantage over the other player in the hand, and you’ll increase your chances of winning by getting everyone else to fold.
